Finally finished this... it's a minific birthday present for Artemis Prime. : )
Anyone confused about the references, they just need to read Starscream's profile on the site... hope it's good. ^^; Crits encouraged with extreme prejudice.
CONSEQUENCES
She didn't deserve it.
These were the thoughts running through the young Maximal's head as he continued to work, oil and sweat staining his feathers. Skyfire continued to work over the stasis locked Vehicon carefully, not wanting to cause his 'patient' anymore pain. It was bad enough what he, what they... had done to her.
First the Great War...
He still retained the memories though the time he and Starscream had spent together, before the two had been split. The experiments, the modifications they had done to her... They had made her loyal to Starscream and Starscream only. What she had done to her sisters...Even as he continued to work, the images stayed vivid in his mind. The fact this alarmed him so had been some of the first signs of what he truly was... Not that he would admit to the others that he knew.
Call it selfishness, but he'd rather be identified as an individual by the few who knew of him. Even if it was stealing one's identity... he jus couldn't stand being considered a flicker of sentience placed upon Starscream's conscience. And in the end, wasn't he redeeming Skyfire's name? After all... the original was just as arrogant as Starscream, no matter his alignment. Of course, even this brings back bad memories as he thinks about it... Screamblade had attempted to bond with the arrogant Maximal in the academy. He had brushed her off then, despite her attempts at befriending him. Or rather... Skyfire had.
And then...Starscream used her once more. Her naivity made it so easy, her lack of memories of the past even more so. The others never suspected them... after all, it was too easy to trick the younger one into the position of blame. Even in the end, when the others knew... he was able to trick her into helping him to the pod. That look on her face... She remembered it. He knew it, even though his darker 'half' shrugged it off. She remembered it all.
He shook his head for a moment, wincing as he pulled a data cable from his arm and plugging it into the vehicon's nervous system. He was lucky of sorts that he retained the memories of how to do this... Star-... Hellscream would kill him if he knew what he was doing, but he didn't care. It was bad enough they had done it... There was no way he'd let anyone else do it to her. Especially that bastard Wannabe megatron, or his flaming warrior Balefire... they had no right to do what they did. And he was just correcting mistakes, wasn't he?...
There's a surge of electricity as he connects to her mind... and starts the process of fixing her. There's a twinge of guilt after he finishes removing Megatron's machinations upon her mind as best he can... and starts altering her memories again. Part of him points out that this is no better then what Starscream did to her in the beginning... but he wasn't turning her evil. He wasn't making her life worse... was he? Was it so wrong to give her happy memories? "...Is it so wrong to have a friend that I can call my own?..." He whispers to himself, almost trying to argue with his own 'conscience'. Memories flash in rapid sequence now through his mind, a friendly face, a friendly tone to Skyfire's face as the two once met.... He pauses for a moment when he reached the critical point in their interaction...
That one moment... when she started to suspect the truth of himself and Starscream. How far is he willing to go here, he can't help but wonder to himself. In the end though... he knows what he needs to do to get what he wants. A small edit here, a small snip here... the scene playing out his imprisonment now vividly, with a moment of 'himself gaining control'...
The guilt strikes him again as he reboots Stingblade, pulling the data cable free. This was underhanded... he couldn't deny this. He just couldn't... but he had to do it. As the vehicon before him finishes activating, coming to a hovering position before himself.... he can't help but not look at her at first. Something about this seems wrong... but ... how far could he go without something like this? He needed this... didn't he?
"...Skyfire?..." Stingblade cautiously speaks up in the moment of silence, her mind a bit confused about the situation. As her mind starts to process the altered memories, she can't help but feel concern for a moment. Something seems off... way off... but she pushes it out of her mind. The friend at hand is more important.
Skyfire stays silent as he turns to look at her for a moment, trying to decide the morality of the situation. Here was his chance to admit what he had done, give her a chance to forgive him... but would she? And wouldn't it defeat the purpose?... As he looks on for a moment, he decides to hell with the morality, just this one time. It's time to stop doubting himself... "Yeah... it's Skyfire... how do you feel?..." He'd live with the consequences, even if Starscream wouldn't.
